What is life without your health?

It is easy for people to go day by day week by week, focusing on what they feel are their higher priorities. You may find yourself saying, I will get healthy when I have finished renovating the house, I’ll focus on my health when I have changed jobs, or when I get married, or when the kids leave home. But what if that day never comes; or when the day comes it is too late because you are now facing diabetes or heart surgery.

Take a moment to reflect on your own “I will get healthy when…” statement. Note down how you talk to yourself regarding the priority of health in your life. You can put this in a special journal so you can keep track of your own self-awareness progress.

Our brains have a habit of only focusing on something as a top priority when the issue is hitting us in the face; we must train it to focus on prevention (as much as we can).  Yes, this requires what seems far more time and effort when “life gets in the way” but what quality of life do you have without your health? How much do you respect yourself and your body?

When was the last time you could say with honesty that your life was enriched with vitality, joy, laughter, love and an effervesce of energy bubbly away in your body (that of course wasn’t stimulated by caffeine or other substances)?

What meaning would your life take if you didn’t have your health? And what does your life feel like when you do have the optimal health and wellbeing you know you can have?

Interesting questions, aren’t they?  On average I would say many people go about their weeks thinking they are healthy because where they are at in their lives becomes their normal. For example, a busy businessman or women who is constantly on the go, eating what they can grab and drinking 5 cups of coffee a day, may believe they are healthy as they do not show any signs of illness apart from a bit of tiredness. But is that person happy?

In this scenario, they are not, because the constant pushing and striving without balance is creating a mental imbalance and a lack of joy for life. Which if they continued with their behaviour could lead to more serious health issues such as heart and kidney issues or diabetes, or a combination of all.

Of course, this is all a personal choice, how we respect ourselves and our life, what we appreciate, and we are grateful for, what we strive for, and what we will do for our desires and achievements are all up to us.  However, what I implore you to consider is, what are you giving up if you do not consider health as one of your top priorities in your life? And if you consider it a top priority already then review your health, how invigorated do you feel, what have you been putting off that you could have started bringing into your lifestyle already?

Maybe it is food for thought you could consider whilst contemplating your day. My optimal time of day is always breakfast for this type of reflection, but you may find your lunch break more appropriate.

Whatever time of day you find it best to have reflection time placed, at least spare a few moments to contemplate and consider, how vitality healthy are you living life?
